Clinical Review of Generalized Peritonitis due to Terminal Ileum Perforation Secondary to Salmonellosis


Abstract
As at step of our Department of Surgery for the investigation of the generalized peritonitis due to Salmonellosis, a clinical evaluation was made for the 69 patients admitted between January, 1969 and the end of 1971.

Followings are the results of this study.

1) The annual incidence is 23 cases, and this figure is not altered essentially since our first report in 1962.

2) There showed some tendency to occur in aged group (30% in 4th decade). 3) The incidence in male has risen up to 4 times of female.

4) The duration of ailment before perforation has somewhat prolonged (30 days or more is 17%). 5) 42 cases (61%) were operated within 24 hours after perforation, This fact contributes to the increased survival rate.

6) The overall mortality is 13%, this is a significant decrease.
